Pan African parliament debates democracy & rule of law
The Pan African Parliament calls for internal democracy in political parties in order to build proper democracy at the national level.
While debating a report on political parties building vibrant and inclusive democracies in Africa, the continental parliament recommended that political parties should continue to be champions of the rule of law.
During the debate, members noted that although some progress had been made in democracy in Africa, a lot still needs to be done to reduce the violence exhibited at election time.
Ugandan representatives, Prof Morris Ogenga Latigo and James Kakooza say there is need for African Governments to get best practices especially on elections from other countries and that politicians and political parties to be accommodative and not to view their opponents as enemies
